Kia Niro (2016 - 2021)
1.6 GDI Hybrid 139bhp First Edition DCT 5dr
Great all rounder
After the first 1000 miles or so, my new-used Niro is growing on me. I purchased this over an Ioniq as it has a flat loading bay with the seats down, looks better and has a sunroof in top trims. I think it looks great in pearlescent white, and First Edition trim has all the features you could want. It’s quick enough off the mark and has sufficient power. Space and practicality are good too.
MPG: If you are getting low MPG, check the settings to make sure you have UK not US gallons selected. I’m getting 62mpg without really trying.
Gripes: the JBL sound system is good, but I’m having issues with the radio signal. Make sure you spec a car with Car Play/Android Auto to get around this. Also, none of the reviews I’ve read mention that the handling isn’t brilliant. Maybe I’m used to driving better-handling cars but while the steering is great, taking corners with any enthusiasm will throw your shopping and/passengers to the other side of the vehicle.
Having said that, it’s a car to drive in a smooth, relaxed manner, and it cruises along really nicely on straight roads. I would definitely recommend this as a used buy for pretty much anyone after a hybrid.
