Jeep Renegade (2015 on)
1.6 Multijet 120hp Limited 5dr
Smallish, cheap to buy and cheap to run and totally reliable. I am impressed.
Having had this car two and a half years I have had time to reflect on its strengths and weaknesses. I'll do the weaknesses first. Its fairly small; a good four seater for adults.Leg room in the back depends on how long legged you are in the front. However it's as good as any in its class. It is reputed to generate wind noise at speed, being shaped like a brick with huge wing mirrors, although I have never noticed it. The diesel is a bit clanky on a cold start up - but aren't they all? Once on the open road it's fine.
On the positive side, these cars are cheap to buy, cheap to insure (group 13-14) and very cheap on fuel. Most of my journeys are only local but overall, since I bought it, it has averaged 56.4mpg. On a long run it can do over 65mpg. The inside is plush - all leather and lots of techie stuff for those of that inclination. The boot behind the rear seats is generous for a small car. With the rear seats down (which mine invariably are) there is loads of space for cases, golf clubs, dogs or a couple of sheep. However the best thing about mine is that it has been faultless since new. I bought a three year service package with the car and have spent absolutely nothing on repairs ever since.
I usually change my cars every two years - I get bored with them - but this one may change that habit. Why on earth would I want to change it? It has been superb. Well done Fiat for sorting out Jeep. I am impressed!.
