Wonderful...if you have very deep pockets!

First and foremost the XF is a beautiful object. Styling is subjective, but the XF is undoubtedly classy, athletic and has a real showstopping presence that made my family and friends want to come over and have a look at it. People who were usually indifferent toward cars asked to sit in the driver's seat. It really felt like something a bit special.

The Jag was also a truly wonderful place to sit with a comfortable, pleasingly designed cabin that is a great place to soak up the miles. Little features like the revolving air vents and ascending gear selector really add to the sense of occasion when you get in to this car in the morning and make you feel special. On early models, like mine, the touchscreen, reversing camera and Sat Nav systems were showing their age a little, but why let that spoil your enjoyment when the rest of the cabin was such a nice place to be. If you can find one with the optional Bowers and Wilkins stereo, that's also worth having.

The XF is truly fantastic to drive, with sharp handling and exceptional performance from the 3.0 diesel engine. 30mpg might sound a little low for a diesel you might think, but when it pulls like a train and does 0-60 in 5.9 seconds, that economy starts to look quite reasonable. The automatic gearbox rarely hesitates and is perfectly happy to waft around town or enjoy a more spirited drive in the country. The ride was decent too, even on my XF's 20 inch wheels.

Reliability wise, I had no real problems with my XF, but did find the wheels had a habit of developing cracks. A quick look on a Jaguar forum showed this was a fairly common problem, so I would advise any potential owners to ensure you carefully check the wheels (including the inside rim) before buying.

Overall I would absolutely recommend an XF to anybody who is interested in one, but would advise that although this is a wonderful car, it can be quite an expensive one to keep well maintained. That said, buy one and you will find it to be incredibly rewarding as it just has that extra little 'something' that many other premium cars seem to miss.
