Overall reliability

Has the right performance, badge and look, but disappoints in many respects.

I had always wanted a Jaguar and was excited to see a British racing Green one with rear camera on offer in the showroom at a reasonable price. Firstly, if anyone should know what BRG looks like, then jaguar should, but mine is almost black in most lights. Performance is very good and handling is exceptionally well balanced. Fuel economy is reasonable, but I did expect better of the new Ingenium design. Emissions are very low, however, and hence tax is also very low. I was also delighted to find that, due to security features, my insurance was cheaper than the smaller car I had before. But my biggest disappointment was the unforgivably poor seat design, which looks good but creates pressure points just where your sciatic nerve sits. I have applied a cheap Chinese made cover to give more comfort, but it look tatty compared with cream leather. There are a few other chronic niggles: 1) At low speed on poor surfaces, it sounds like the suspension is about to fall apart. I suspect this is simply an exhaust pipe rattling against a body panel, but the dealer has failed on several occasions to remedy it. 2) The auto stop/start has pretty much given up working and I have recently seen, in the Honest John column, that the three software updates have probably drained the battery and reduced its capacity to retain voltage. This explains why the stop/start never works after a software update. 3) The dashboard design is proudly portrayed as sweeping from one side to the other, where the side air vents blend seamlessly with the door decor blah, blah. The reality is that anyone getting into the front of the car risks knocking their shins on the vents - painfully in at least 2 instances of my experience. Otherwise, the ride quality and quietness inside is commendable, although the car is really only a 2+2, there is so little leg room in the back. The boot is reasonably large but useless for long objects as the rear seat backs don't fold down (not on mine, anyway). So there you have it - I have a Jaguar, with all the attendant kudos, but I probably won't have another.
