Tremendous Value

I bought this car because I'd heard so many good things about Hyundai and my wife had an i10 that was superb. I also liked the looks, though I accept that is personal preference. I didn't thrash the car at all as i was more interested in comfort and economical motoring, and that is where this car really shines. Compared to a Focus, it can wallow a little in corners if you're enthusiastic and the steering can be a little light. The advantage for me was that these traits made it extremely comfortable as it soaked up bumps and potholes without complaint and whether I was driving along the country roads of Lincolnshire or on the motorway, progress was always relaxed and comfortable. Light steering made town driving a breeze and it was completely reliable.

Complaints? Not much really. The car sits quite low and if you really load it up with luggage, it can look like the suspension has collapsed it sits so low. You can also tell that in one or two places, they have cut corners to keep to a budget. This was most obviously seem on the leather gear knob and the leather steering wheel, as it didn't take long for the smooth and shiny black leather to start showing signs of wear. I also always thought the material on the seats was a little cheap but it seemed to last OK while I owned the car.

I averaged just over 56mpg driving carefully along the country roads of Lincolnshire, but I could get more on a motorway cruise. If you want a good looking car with plenty of space, excellent economy and extremely comfortable at an affordable price, I would have no hesitation in suggesting the Hyundai i30. The Ford Focus is undoubtedly a better drivers car, but it costs a lot more on the used market, the ride is a lot firmer and there is significantly less internal space. If you're prepared to sacrifice a bit of economy for a better balance between the Focus and the i30, I would suggest the Kia Ceed.
