Honda Insight (2009 - 2014)
1.3 IMA HS CVT 5dr Hatchback
Quiet economy on a budget.
This is the second Insight I have owned. I looked at many alternative cars from various manufacturers prior to purchasing this car. Although there are better cars elsewhere, they all had downsides. This is a well put together car, that are not too common on the road, and has striking looks from the front at least (beauty is in the eyes of the beholder). I consistently get in excess of 50 mpg, without really trying. The car handles really well in town, but on dual carriageway, because of light body weight and slightly sporty suspension, requires a constant steadying of the steering wheel. CVT gearbox means that if you attempt sudden hard acceleration, the engine struggles for a few seconds before sorting the gears out, but that is what CVT tends to be like whenever it is used. I didn't buy this car to be a boy racer however, but wanted a reliable, environmentally friendly, economical car, that had some kind of character. For now, the Insight does the job, but as Electric and Hybrid cars become more readily available, and the choice widens, I will look again at what is available and reluctantly change to something else.
