Overall reliability

Probably the best car I have ever had

I have been running a January 2011 Mondeo 2.0 TDi Zetec Estate (115ps) for 2 and a half years now as a company car and it is extremely difficult to find fault with it. The main extras I specified when ordering it were Sat Nav, a removable tow bar and roof rails. One bonus of upgrading to the Sat Nav audio unit was that part of that package included an automatic upgrade to include front and rear parking sensors. This is by far and away the largest car I have driven in my 25 years of driving and have found this feature to be the most useful. As far as reliability is concerned, I suppose I am spoiled as a driver of a lease car in that I don't have to pay any of the servicing or maintenance bills but I do see details of what has been needed - and in 2 and a half years and 55,000 miles I have to say that its not a lot. Regular services have not identified any issues - just the usual consumables like a set of brake pads at the last service. The car has been remarkably kind on tyres with the fronts lasting about 25,000 miles a pair and the rears something approaching 40,000 miles a pair. Other than the above, nothing else has been needed. The towing capability of the car is, for my requirements, more than adequate. I tow a 500kg trailer tent for family holidays a few times a year and when the car is loaded with four people, luggage, luggage in the roofbox and the trailer tent on the back, the car is more than up to the job. Once you get to cruising speed, it is easy to forget how much you have on board (although my 10 year old daughter is quick to point out that I should watch my speed when towing!). Overall, I cannot fault the car. If pushed, the only complaint I could have was that my company didn't fund the extras which I had to pay for. Most manufacturers include roof rails on their estates but Ford charge for them as an option. However, if specified for a new car, they only charge £70 or so so its not a big complaint. Now after 2 and a half years, my employer has decided to move away from a fleet of company cars to giving the employees a car allowance. Having had use of a Mondeo as a fully funded car, I now need to select and lease/ buy a car that I could potentially own for a number of years after I cease to use it as my business vehicle. I think you can guess which dealership is top of my list.
