Ford Focus (2018 on)
ST-Line Edition T EcoBoost 125 MHEV Start/Stop 5dr
Surprisingly good: engaging to drive, practical and well-equipped with superb fuel economy
One month since collection and I'm more and more impressed with this Ford (I've never had one before). I was sceptical about the mild hybrid system, but it seems to make a very positive difference to fuel economy and performance. There's very little turbo lag and for a 125 engine the car pulls well in all gears and can push on at 40mph in 6th gear (on a level road). Total economy since I acquired it is late 50s mpg - it easily pushes into the late 60s on a run and around town I never see less than 45, often much better. Equipment levels are good for a mid-range model (wireless charging, auto lights/wipers etc.). I thought I'd miss climate control, but the manual aircon has been very effective and easy to use - much easier than on my Peugeot. The car is fun to drive and holds the road brilliantly, with plenty of feedback. There doesn't seem to be much trade off for the sporty drive - on a run it's very comfortable, the only downside is a little bit of bounciness on uneven roads, but I can live with that; the seats are also very comfortable. I've gone from a Peugeot 508 with touchscreens for everything and it's been a joy to return to a car with proper gauges and manual controls for its aircon.
