Audi Q5 (2008 - 2017)
2.0 TDI Quattro S Line 170 5dr
Perfect all-rounder
This Q5 replaced an A4 that was getting a little too small for our growing family. This car has proven to be perfect, even in a short time. I chose the car carefully so it has a couple of nice extras like B&O, auto-opening boot. load-through back seat etc. but the basics are spot on. It's a bit slower than the A4, but the handling is just as good really, the build quality is excellent inside and out, the fuel consumption is good (my wife travels a lot with her job), it fits the usual family related paraphernalia in the boot easily and, with the load-through backseat, my son's 6 foot lacrosse stick fits in nicely too. In fact, I find it hard to believe it's actually slightly smaller than the A4. Wierd.
Last weekend we were on the Snake Pass in the Peak District when it started to snow and I can honestly say I have never felt so secure in such treacherous conditions - no slipping, wheel spin, sliding or drifting - it was absurdly stable. Obviously I was taking it very, very easy, but when I saw what some other nutters were attempting, I could just pass by all the madness without any fuss - well, more 'escape' from the madness really.
Insurance is the same as the A4, tax is slightly more but nothing to write home about, as they say.
I can imagine having this car for a long time! And I can't really see going back from an SUV either - after all those years of cursing people with them!!
