Audi A6 Avant (2011 - 2018)
2.0 TDI S line 5dr Estate
A wonderfully relaxing long distance cruiser and load carrier.
I previously had the V6 engined 2.7 TDI on the old model, yet this is just as quick if lacking a little bit of motorway overtaking grunt. Fuel economy is improving but nowhere near official figures - I'm averaging 41 mpg over 23,000 miles. I know it's a big car, but to be so far away from the official figures is a disappointment - and the economy setting makes precious little difference. The cabin is probably the best out there, although I'm disappointed that the heated seats have disappeared from the spec. Also, for some bizarre reason, there is no foot rest alongside the clutch which can leave my left leg a bit uncomfortable on longer journeys. The A6 does tend to munch the front tyres in particular and it is worth trying to find a good independent tyre supplier as Audi dealers are not the cheapest. Other than that, the car has performed superbly over 18 months, eats the miles yet is also quite happy around town. The load area is enough for me, but the roofline does make it occasionally awkward for larger, square, objects. Build quality, as ever, is excellent; as is the aftersales service from Preston Audi. I did, briefly, stray to the dark side and have a BMW 520D estate - the fact that I have returned to the A6 pretty much says it all!
