1.6 JTDm-2 Lusso 5dr Hatchback

Underrated: sporty, economical, good to look at, reliable

I'm about to sell my G after 3 years' happy ownership. Considering this car only has 105bhp, the torque available makes it feel very quick and it has never felt underpowered. Having tried the 2.0 diesel engines, the 1.6 is quieter and more economical, the smart choice in my view. I can achieve well over 70mpg on a gentle run and even in mixed driving pushing along, I'm getting 55+.
On a twisty road the car is great fun, while feeling safe too. I love the look of the car and it stands out among so many Golfs and Focuses. It has been very reliable, needing only two small warranty jobs, which were completed efficiently by the dealership. My only bug bear is the sound system, which can't shuffle your CD or MP3 tracks. I assume this has been addressed in the facelift model.
