peugeot 406 - Cat C write off - John156

I am in need of advice please. My 406 has just been written off cat c.

If I buy the car back from the insurance company. What do I need to to do to get it legal & back on the road. I have done a few internet searches but I am still confused. I know I would need to get a vic check done by vosa, but what else do I need to do to get it back on the road. Does it need to be re mot'd ?? or is there another inspection it needs to go through.???

Also I have read conflicting things about insurance, after it being cat c some saying it makes no differance, others saying you can only get third party not fully comp. Others saying it is hard to get insurance for a cat c ???& when you do it costs alot more.???

I know that as it has been a cat c this would take money of the resell price but does not bother me as I want to keep it.

If someone with some experiance in these matters could answer I would greatly appreciate it, many thanks in advance.

Hi,John,
The first thing I would do is try to work out how much repairs and vic testing would cost for your car.
I think the 406 was last available new in 2004. Likely value for a good one today £1000.?
Perhaps it would make financial sense to take the insurance payout and find a low mileage replacement.
