Volkswagen Golf VI - Low mileage and a VW diesel - paultf

Planning on buying a new VW Golf. Originally I had my mind set on a 1.2 TSI 105 BHP. Then the sales guy turned my head and I got interested in a 1.6 TDI.

But I have heard with my low mileage (5,000 miles/year) there might be problems in a TDI with the filter (DPF) or flywheel (DMF).

The sales guy said there are no such problems with the TDI.

Another sales guy, in a different dealership, said there would be!

Who do I believe?

If your low mileage is made up of lots of short trips, then a modern diesel isn't a good choice, as a DPF needs longer trips to regenerate; see Q107 in 'Ask Honest John' for more detailed explanations.

Thanks for reply. The information was very useful.

That has made my mind up - I won't be buying a diesel - stick to a petrol.
