Camelot-Canadian pension fund for teachers - National Lotto, is it a rip off ? - injection doc

In March 2010, Toronto-based Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan announced that it was buying Camelot for £389m

Ontario Teachers' owns a substantial portfolio of infrastructure assets including: 100% of Bristol Airport and minority stakes in Birmingham Airport, Copenhagen Airport and Brussels Airport; the High Speed 1 rail line linking London with the Channel Tunnel; and international water and power utilities. Ontario Teachers' also owns Camelot Group PLC, which holds an exclusive licence to operate the U.K. National Lottery.

So does this mean that the majority of money paid into the UK lotto goes to the Canadian teachers pension fund ?[/b]

Is this why the ticket price doubled and then the odds of winning changed dramatically from one in 14 million too one in 45 million !!!!!!!!

Should we be boycotting the National Lotto ? as the Daily Express suggested

No wonder the UK economy is poor, shareholders sell out to any country for their own personnel greed.

Wy are you in particular concentrating on this? There are a large number of UK companies owned by companies from abroad. Even before it was sold it had shareholders.

It could be worse - Gazprom for example.

Welcome to 'modern Britain' - this sort of thing isn't exactly new, is it. At least in this case its now owned by people from a friendly country, rather than, say, a foreign government or company/person/state-backed organisation from a not-so-friendly country.

Many of thos selling are UK pension funds, which many of us are members of indirectly, so if (as you say) we are all 'incensed' about it all, we should be badgering them to stop doing so, even if it means in the short term having a lower return on our pensions. The problem is wheedling out the good sales from the bad - it isn't just as easy as 'foreign sale bad, UK sales/no sale good'.

The Express has a commercial interest in a rival lottery so not exactly impartial.

I'd forgotten about that! Thanks for the reminder...sounds like their one is not doing well and needs a boost!

Works both ways. UK is the second-biggest outward investor after the US; also biggest economy for inward investment in Europe.
