Skoda Yeti 1.2 TSI SE DSG - Plug Leads fault - Trainfan

My 2011 Yeti EPC warning light came on, engine running roughly and went into emergency programme which allows travel at 30mph only. Skoda dealer checked and found a failure of plug lead 3. Quote for fitting new leads, £300 for Skoda parts, £200 for alternative manufacturer, supplied by Skoda Garage. Took the cheaper option. Noted that the new leads are now fitted with extra sheathing for heat protection. Has this been recognised as a problem by Skoda, and therefore should I ask for some refund.

You have been robbed. Plug leads for your car are under £40 a set at Euro Car Parts and even though fitting then to some cars can be awkward you could DIY in a couple of hours max.

Have they got big windows, they saw you coming.

This is a well known issue on this engine as fitted to many Vag models. It really is a poor design as the ht leads run very close to the exhaust manifold and there is inadequate heat protection. If Vauxhall manage to address the problem on some of the older astra/corsa models with heat protection tubes, then why can't vag do the same.?

I doubt very much that dealers source their parts from "Euro car parts"

I wouldn't say he's been "robbed" as you put it, he's just paid what anyone else would pay at a dealer, diagnostic fee, parts, Labour, and VAT.

£200 is probably about right.

If you want it done cheaper then do it yourself...otherwise..
