Nissan Micra 2001. - Car losing a lot of power. - Johngalaxy

Hi,

I have a 1 litre Nissan Micra K11 2001.

The problem that I have is the Engine Management Light has came on and the car is running very bad (severe lack of power).

I took my car to the local mechanic and he plugged it into his diagnostic machine and it came up reading "Running Too Lean".

I have renewed the spark plugs, fuel filter and the lambda sensor at the top of the manifold closet to the top of the engine. There is still no change in performance.

Any help or guidance will be very much appreciated.

Lack of power and a running lean fault code logged, could be a faulty maf sensor.

This could be an inlet manifold leak. Check around the gasket area to see whether it’s the problem.

Hi thanks for getting back to me. I unplugged the MAF sensor and started the engine. There seemed to be no bother with the car's idling and it was far better performing when on the road for a small drive than it had previously been.

Would you recommend buying a new MAF sensor?

Thanks.

I think it’s probably a good idea to replace the maf sensor. Plenty on flea bay , but prices are variable , from around £25 - £100 . No idea on the quality of any of them .

Hi,

Today I tried 4 different car shops asking if they had a MAF Sensor and they all said no and there suppliers don`t even have one. Might because of the age of the car.

I checked Ebay and there is one that is very similar to the one on my car.

I decided to try and take it off to check that it`s the same as the one on the car.

The problem that I have now is that the screwdriver head is different to anything I have ever came across before. It looks like an Allen head with a spigot in the middle of it.

I then bought a Draper 33 piece security screwdriver bit set because they have a hole up the centre of the bits. None of them fit the screw.

Do you know what the bit I need to uninstall the MAF Sensor?

I took photos of the MAF Sensor to show you the screw, but I am unable to upload them onto my post.

Thanks!

I suspect it’s a 5 point security torx bit . Not sure what size you need .

Ok no worries, I was hoping that you might of previously had to replace one.

Thanks for your advice.

Same problem here with a Nissan of similar age and engine design. P0171 code, fuel trims running at plus 25%, mpg down to high twenties (normally 37-ish). Since filling up with Super Unleaded back to normal performance. My car is a 2003 Almera Tino that according to Nissan should run on E10 no problem

Thanks everyone for your suggestions to my problem, very much appreciated.

I bought a MAF Sensor from Ebay and replaced the old one.

The car is running fine now. Engine management light has stayed off.

Thanks.
