Jaguar I-Pace - Cost of UK built car much cheaper in USA - nick62

The "cheapest" Jag I-Pace in the UK is listed as £63,495 OTR. Take away the dreaded VAT and the base price is approx. £52,900.

A quick visit to the US Jaguar website lists the same car at $69,500, or £49,700 at current exchange rates. The sales tax in the US varies from zero to 8%, so they get a MUCH cheaper car "on the road", (upto £10,000 cheaper almost)

It really miffs me that we still get stuffed compared to the US as you could argue we are subsidising their purchases. How can Jaguar sell the car more than 6% cheaper after shipping it across the Atlantic?

They will sell it for what they feel the market will pay for the car.

I think a lot of items can be cheaper in the US as they can buy more of them at once as the market is much larger and so can sell more. The UK is a much smaller market.

It is not UK built, though but built in Austria.

Exchange rates change every day. Unless they change the price daily they will never get it spot on and there may well be differences in spec as well.

Those prices a few months ago would have made it much cheaper in the UK!

It doesn't seem to be a huge difference in the scheme of things - the car is "about" £50k in both countries.
