Are the people repairing our car deliberately delaying the process?

I think we are victims of a scam. My wife was involved in a car crash just over two months ago. Our insurers, Acromas (formerly Saga), arranged for the car to be picked up and repaired by a garage in Dronfield. A courtesy car was arranged with Enterprise, Sheffield. We were told it would be about 10 days. Then they could not get the parts, they had staff off sick, some painting apparatus was out of action, etc etc. It would always be ready in a couple of days. Now, two months later, we still do not have the car back. Last Thursday it was going to be Monday. Today, Wednesday, I am going to the repair shop 10 miles away to demand to see the car.

How does this work? Who makes the money? Does the car hire firm share with the repairer? Is the insurance company involved? It is difficult to believe that a 2-month delay is at all feasible for a body repair. To add insult to injury, my wife got a parking ticket in the hire car which was sent to Enterprise who charged us £35 administration fee for transferring the £50 fine to us. Is there anything we can do? Is it worth my while writing to the insurance company?

There may be some kind of scam going on to extend the period of hire. But at least Enterprise will be charging standard rates for the hire car, not the inflated rates of some credit hire operators that might be disputed by an insurer. 'Accident Management' companies make their money either from hiring cars directly or from commission from the rental companies. SAGA are now brokers, not insurers, and refer claims to ‘accident management companies’
