How can I convert the odometer from km to miles on an imported car?
I’m planning to import a 2015 Toyota Prius from Japan and understand that for UK registration, I need to make modifications like installing rear fog lights and converting the speedometer from kilometers to miles. While the speed can be easily switched to miles with a button, I’m trying to figure out the best way to convert the odometer reading from kilometers to miles.
From what I’ve researched, one option is to replace the entire speedometer cluster with a second-hand UK-spec Prius cluster, which costs over £100. However, I’m wondering if there are any alternative solutions. For example, is there a software reprogramming option or a cost-effective aftermarket solution that can handle the conversion?
I’d appreciate any advice or suggestions on how to approach this.

The only way around this is to use an instrument cluster from a UK Prius that has been calibrated for miles, but this is a long-winded and largely pointless process. The speed can, as you say, be displayed in miles and this is the only legal requirement other than a rear foglight on Japanese imports.
