Insurance premium went £450 up from previous year do to van being stolen but recovered by police 20 hours later, can the insurance company still register this as a claim?

We would suggest clarifying with your insurer about whether a claim has been registered against your policy. Even if this is not the case, the fact that your vehicle was stolen and reported to the police may have counted against you in terms of your renewal. However, the vast majority of drivers have found their insurance renewal has increased compared to the previous year, so we would always recommend shopping around and not accepting the first renewal quote your insurer provides.
