  • LR Defender- to buy or not? 17 Jan 2007 (Forum)
, tax to October, FSH, new tyres and a genuine 70k miles. Living in rural North Yorkshire I should have no problems in finding a buyer when I come to sell, but what should I offer? Having looked at Autotrader online, prices seem ridiculously high for old (in my opinion) Defender 90's, but I am tempted
  • Uneven tyre wear - Renault Modus 10 Jan 2007 (Forum)
[relevant] experience on this matter - in my opinion. Apparantly the power steering can cause more 'aggressive' wear than a car without p/s on turns. He has even checked the alignment [not using laser equipment though] and it is within tolerance. Question - should I pay to get a 'proper' laser alignment
  • Who served you well in 2006? 1 Jan 2007 (Forum)
naming and shaming those who haven't - we'll have to remove those!) My vote(s) go to: Jacksons Basingstoke, where the salesmen were quite happy to spend a long time with me when I was considering the Skoda. It didn't matter to them that it was going to be a company car, like it does to some dealers
  • Merc A-Class - Who are they kidding? 23 Dec 2006 (Forum)
for Merc so they get them very cheap ). The other thing that made me laugh - how can we be this far along in diesel technology and STILL Merc are making diesels that are rattly and loud - the only improvement between the 1.8 diesel in this A-Class and a 1990's Escort is the lack of vibration
  • How often do you perform basic checks? 14 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Inspired by the Dundee cars thread, how often can you honestly say you check your car(s) over for defects or safety related problems? I tend to check fluids, bulbs and have a cursory check of tyres at some point over a weekend on both cars, although I will admit I am not religious about
  • stolen keys again 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Firstly a cautionary tale and also any useful extra info will be gratefully received. We were burgled a few days ago with a Mini Cooper S being stolen from the drive. They also took keys for a nearly new Audi A6 but not the car (? why). Mini has been recovered with minimal damage but effectively

  • Computer Related Questions - Volume 103 9 Oct 2006 (Forum)
, good amp and tuner (and if so, which ones) and a docking station connected to it that also charges. Any suggestions, as ever, much appreciated. Lee Thought about posting this in IHAQ, but seemed more appropriate here what with the wires and electrickery involved... -- You know, it\'s not like
  • Merc 190 Cosworth 2.5 16V - how rare? 10 Aug 2006 (Forum)
OS 'A' post outer skin - (the 'A' post itself is fine - the windscreen is bonded to it and didn't smash) My dilemma in fixing/selling stems from it's apparent value/or lack of... Just how many 2.5L 16V cosworth 190's are left out there? How collectible are they (going to be?) should I fix
  • Report garage rage? 3 Aug 2006 (Forum)
This morning, at 6:30am I stopped at the local garage, to fill up the tank. I got out of my car, and another car pulled up in front (facing the wrong way) and a wiry bloke in his 50's got out, and started abusing me with aggressive expletive strewn language in a strong Scottish (Glasgow?) accent. I
  • Reliable, cheap French car - possible? 3 Aug 2006 (Forum)
What with the high cost of french s/h cars I'm minded to buy a RHD car in England, run it here for a while to make sure any bugs are sorted out and then drive it to the french holiday house where (with right-hand dipping headlights) it will live out it's natural life. It certainly won't have much
  • Sat Nav - standalone or PDA? 1 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I have just got my latest toy - an XDA Mini S, a phone/PDA combined with lots of twiddly things to play with. The music is very good too when using the headset provided. I would like to put Tomtom on it as well so that I have phone/diary/satnav all in one box and just carry one piece of technology

  • Volvo ETM 28 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Advice required. I'm currently looking for a quick discrete and comfortable coupe. Until recently I had been looking at volvo C70s (T5 and 2.4T)s for sub£7K. However, recent internet investigations have highlighted the problem of the electronic throttle module on volvo petrol cars from week 20
  • Peugeot 405 Battery Drain....or not ? 20 Feb 2006 (Forum)
is a problem - we pulled out all the fuses, and checked cooling fan relays but it wasn't there. S I disconnected the battery for two days to remove the drain, and of course the car started up Then, another guy told me that half an amp is normal, as the clock and radio memory use that much when the car
  • non-fault accident - classic car policy 25 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I was recently (Friday) hit from the rear in my 1982 Citroen Dyane. I was sat in a traffic jam, driver behind was tending to her child in the rear seat and hit the o/s/r corner of my car. Upshot of this is that the car is probably an insurance write-off. I have notified my insurance company

Assuming that they are indeed one lady owner (and not "plus one 17 year old son" is the car likely to be in better nick? I guess I'm
