  • Graded driving licence 20 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Should we have graded car driving licences in the UK? First 2 years after test, less than 70 BHP normally aspirated. 2 to 5 years after test up to 120 BHP. Over 5 years unlimited. Or would this upset the "celebs".

  • Peugeot 406 (1996 - 1998) - XUD engine: is 2.1 as solid as 1.9? 28 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Had a couple of cars with the old 1905 lump. (both non-turbo). Excellent engines, and most on here seem to agree. Wondering about the 2.1 litre derivative - is it just as durable? Comments, on a postcard, to.......

Seen as my post about Carcraft has been stopped. Could someone please answer my query about warranty. If I buy a 2 year old s/hand car which originally had a 3 year manufacturers warranty from new is the remaining 1 year transferrable to me on purchase?
  • Honda recalls 3000 Civics 13 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Dox - I need a new God - they have let me down badly now - the reputation is tarnished. On a serious note:- http://www.whatcar.co.uk/news-article.aspx?NA=222728 The cars were built in may & june - the whatcar picture shows an old civic - not sure if that is accurate though ?
  • Mondeo TDCi - s/h bargain ? 17 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I have noticed that 3 year old reasonable mileage Mondeo TDCi's can be had for less than £5k .... which seems quite a bargain if one looks at many VW group cars of that sort - is there something wrong with the TDCi's, or is this just massive depreciation !
  • previous owners 6 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Been discussing private purchase of prestige car today with 40,000 on the clock and 4 years old. Seller seems absolutely straight. Discloses that it has had 4 previous owners (he is the 5th) and that this is making it difficult to sell - any advice? Should I just forget it as others seem to have

  • ebay bargains? 12 Feb 2005 (Forum)
just joined ebay so I'm a bit of a virgin (if that's possible)but am I being naive in thinking I can pick up a 10 year old luxury car for a couple of grand or are they just money pits. A BMW 740 with 100K on the clock for a £2k is surely worth a punt isn't it?
  • MOT brake question 21 Sep 2004 (Forum)
My Corolla needs an MOT shortly, and the front Pads are worn, and the discs have some corrosion - how can I tell if they are worn enough to fail an MOT ? The car stops OK (maybe just a little worse than it was from new - now 3 year old, but with 130k on the clock).

  • Alloys - Best yet 12 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Today, in Macclesfield, I saw a Ford car, Fiesta or Focus (they are like Chinamen). The back wheels were alloys with a strip of rubber around them, probably 17in. The front wheels were 15in steel with good old fashioned fat tyres. What is the backroom view on the handling and safety?
  • Buying/selling registrations.. 10 Dec 2003 (Forum)
What determines if a registration is transferable? If you see someone selling an old pre letter prefix car for restoration. But lets say its a hopeless Austin/Morris something with no history and not worth the time/money to save. Can you scrap it and transfer the plate? How does it work? Cheers
  • Audi A3 3 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I keep getting conflicting info on whether a 2 year old Audi 1.8T Quatrro has better performance than the 1.8T. or was it just a case of being 4 wheel drive. What Car says the 1.8T has 150bhp and the Quattro 180bhp. Local dealer says no difference. Any thoughts?
  • Nissan QX 22 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I am loking for a three year old Nissan QX 2.0 V6 automatic. Unfortunately they almost all have high mileages. Is it realistic to expect a car of this sort that already has 90,000 miles on the clock to cover a further 120,000 over the next eight years without major mechanical problems? John
  • cheesy pong 7 Feb 2002 (Forum)
we're advised to run the aircon at intervals during the winter just to get rid of bugs in the system which can cause a smell. But if its cold outside, will the aircon cut in and achieve the objective, please, folks? Despite doing what I've been told, the car still sometimes smells of old socks.
  • Shell Optimax 31 Aug 2001 (Forum)
have just filled up with this fuel. My car specs 98 ron preferred, with 95 minimum. I hope that it improves the performance and economy. I asked the attendant and he said that the fuel is the same as the old stuff, but improved. i.e. it doesn't melt your engine (hopefully). Fingers crossed
