My Corolla needs an MOT shortly, and the front Pads are worn, and the discs have some corrosion - how can I tell if they are worn enough to fail an MOT ? The car stops OK (maybe just a little worse than it was from new - now 3 year old, but with 130k on the clock).

Hi,
If there is corrosion on the working friction face of the disc, i.e., where the disc pad should wipe, and this corrosion is visible without removing the hub-cap or wheel, then the car should fail on this point.
If you know the corrosion is there, but will be hidden by a hub-cap or similar, I would suggest that you overhaul the brakes regardless of MOT concerns.
