  • what is that all about - You have won 3000 dollars Honest john 11 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I have just googled the tel number and there is loads of information on it being a holiday scam & the company asking for credit card details to the tune of 8-900 !!!! to secure your win ! Why is a reputable site promoting that in one of its boxes ? It says I'm a lucky winner in London of a 3000 prize.
  • Red Letter Day at MIRA 22 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi All, I've got a drive of a Ferrari at MIRA soon (Birthday present from the wife) and the accompanying letter says that for security reasons no photographs are allowed and all phones, camera's etc must be left in the car. A colleague at work reckons that's a bit of a scam so they can sell their own photo's! To be honest I can understand there being an issue with photographs at MIRA but has anyone got any experience of this and advice please? Cheers. FTF

  • Any - We Buy Any Car websites 26 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Having read their terms and conditions I see they charge an upfront admin fee of about £50. Is this a scam? Do they just take the money and not show up or are their offers genuine. www.webuy-autos.com have offered £150 less than my asking price. I am very suspicious.

I have annual car rental insurance and annual worldwide travel insurance. Any advice, recommendations etc about car collection, drop-off, upgrades, insurances, scams etc etc? Gentle note - whilst I would be delighted to receive advice about where to go and what do in CA, perhaps in another thread that I posted a while ago? Thanks.
  • Where are your old tyres ? 9 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Of course as the law stands, the warehouse owner is left to pay for their proper removal and disposal. This scam has also been worked on small lock ups so if thats your business, I'd keep a closer eye on them.
  • Any - webuyanycar.com 1 May 2010 (Forum)
I think that this is a fair price, and am aware of the charges they deduct; my question is, does anyone here have any direct experience of webuyanycar? Any problems reported anywhere?  Any scams I should be aware of? All answers gratefully received. SD
  • Which type of diesel fuel?! 12 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Should I be filling up my new diesel engine with the more expensive "low sulphur" stuff, or will good ol' regular diesel suffice? Is it just a marketing scam, or will the low sulphur stuff really protect the engine, make it do more mpg,... etc? In the 5 weeks that I've had the car i've alternated between regular diesel and the low sulphur stuff at fill-ups.

  • Nitrogen Filled Tyres? 12 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I know that some tyre retailers claim nitrogen keeps tyres inflated for longer thus enhancing tyre life, reducing fuel consumption and 'helping with vehicle handling' - whatever that last bit means. Seems to me it seems like a good scam on behalf of garages to charge a premium to fill a punters tyres with a low cost gas. Look forward to replies from someone with experience. I'll try and keep an open mind until then!

  • n/a - HPS Enterprises 19 Oct 2018 (Forum)
They do seem legitimate but would like a bit more concrete evidence that it's not a scam.  Afterall, we are about to send money to a company we don't know for a car we haven't seen (you can't be too careful these days).   It seems that their head office is in the UK but they operate mainly in Europe.
  • Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost - Brake Fluid & Engine Flush 18 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Bearing in mind the car has done less than 11500 miles since new on 27th Feb2013. The cost for this work was nearly £65. Is this a scam for dealers to earn extra money ?
  • Something Smells Fishy 1 Mar 2012 (Forum)

They then stole the cars again, selling each car up to three times. Mastermind Nokhiaz Khan, 31, from Hornchurch, Essex, was sentenced to four-and-a-half years for fraud and conspiracy to convert crime proceeds.
  • Water as fuel - hoax, isn't it? 22 Dec 2008 (Forum)
A link somewhere else took me to http://www.gas4free.com ... and it looks to me like it's either a scam or an out-of-season April Fool's joke. I am no scientist, but I thought that: a) the electrolytic separation of water to hydrogen and oxygen required as much energy as was available through the subsequent combustion of the hydrogen b) trying to create the two cycles in a machine or in an industrial process would require an ongoing input of energy from elsewhere, to compensate for inefficiencies in the system and c) this would be the case for any similar combustion/reversal cycle.
