Volkswagen Transporter - Marine Diesel engine oil for van use 4 Mar 2013 (Forum)
engines but surely if the SAE and CF ratings are suitable it would be ok? Maybe the detergent content is quite high, but after a couple of low mileage oil changes & sump flushes with it..? -

Oil, ambient temp. 23 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Can't really think of how to title it, but when you're doing an oil change in your car do you actually read the little chart thing in the manual where it tells you what oil is suitable for what temperature, or do you just go for the broadest range multigrade you can find? Only realised today I can -
Mondeo Oil Filter Difficult to remove 6 May 2004 (Forum)
Have just changed the oil and filter on my 2001 new shape Mondeo. The filter is the one which you unscrew and replace the inner paper mesh bit. I had no end of trouble in getting it off the car as it was on so tight. Am I missing a special tool for doing this? Want to make it a bit easier next -
Synthetic Gearbox Oil 2 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Folks, Would list members replace mineral gear oil with synthetic? Any noise suppresion/leakage issues? The XM at 76K is probably due a change. The wheel bearing noise I mentioned some time back sounds more like a very slight gear box noise. So slight that my local Citroen indie dismissed -
Nissan Almera - Cam Chain on Nissan Almera 53 21 Nov 2014 (Forum)
My Nissan Almera has started to make a noise and I have been told by a local mechanic that the chain is loose. He has said that it could cost £400-£500 to replace but that an oil and filter change might help. The noise is intermitant and only when the car is cold -

Vauxhall Astra 1.7 D - Worth Spending Money Servicing ? 6 Nov 2024 (Forum)

Yamaha Vmax 125cc Scooter - Burst of smoke on startup 3 Jul 2024 (Forum)
As above. GF's scooter, inherited from her brother, approx 20 yrs old, I'm told. Seems to have started doing it recently and, since I did an oil change recently, I'm inevitably in the frame. Her old one had a dipstick, so I used to stealthily top it up sometimes, occaisionally -

Extended Service Intervals 11 Jun 2004 (Forum)
With the current trend towards long service intervals, I see many people extolling the virtues of changing oil and filter at 6000 miles. What is this figure based on? Are modern engine oils only good for 6000 miles, after which they deteriorate rapidly, or is it a throwback to the dark ages -
OAP ZX TD Problem 5 Jul 2001 (Forum)
the other bearing any ideas? Second guessing at the answer is a gearbox failure resulting in vibration likely (no metallic pieces in drained g/box oil)? Apart from a slight whine the g/box is slick. Other observations applying to all TD PSA engines is that the rads MUST be changed every three years or 90K -

My dad has a ford transit connect which after having had various oil leaks caused by a bad engine change (FWI national engines dont use new gaskets) fixed, i took the van on a 10 mile drive to make sure everything was ok which it was but after a few times it has trouble starting and will now only -
Primera 97 1.6 Preventative Maintenance 3 Feb 2007 (Forum)
not to. It is up to 127K now. For continued reliability is it worth changing The manual gearbox oil. I saw that 75W-85 is recommended on here. Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 04 1.8 Oil Warning Light 8 Nov 2015 (Forum)
. So I bought some oil and topped up. Light stayed on. I was near home and figured drivingdown the hill wouldnt hurt so drove it to a mechanics. The mechanic asked if it had ever had an oil change (its done 60,000) and to my knowledge it had not, so he changed the oil and the filter, ran it and said -
Synth oil solution - cold cranking & seized engine 23 Jan 2010 (Forum)
an emergency oil change to Mobil 1 0w40 the next day. Cold cranking at -6c was much faster - as fast as with a warm engine on the previous oil. Of course - I appreciate you can speculate forever on whether full synth is `worth it` - but those examples have me convinced it is. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 2003 - 1.4 petrol using a lot of oil. 4 Dec 2007 (Forum)
