Its pressurizing the coolant and forcing it out of the weekest part of the system - the radiator plastic end cap. I have also noticed a tinge of oil in the expansion tank.   The interior heater on this car always used to warm up very quickly. For some time now, although the engine temperature gauge shows that the engine heats up very quickly, the heater can take about 15 minutes to get hot enough. There is then plenty of heat. Therer are no coolant leaks

  Realised that my new BMW 3 has no coolant temperature gauge! SWMBO says that a temperature gauge is something she doesn't look at anyway, and i suspect that's the case for many drivers. Also, modern, well looked after engines seem to work with the temperature gauge (where fitted) rock steady

  Clio 1.6 8v K7M engine. Changed the coolant on the wife's Clio, all sorted, however I removed what I thought was the cyl block drain plug to find it did not have coolant behind it, this was a short bolt about 20mm long with an 11mm head situated on the front of the block near the gearbox end below
