Oil Additives / Fuel Quality 30 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Do "in between change" oil additives have any real benefits? Is there any evidence whether different brands of fuels are of varying quality? I would particularly like to find some objective independent test results. -
Filter change tip 9 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Just thought I'd share a tip with those of you who regularly do their own oil & filter changes. (It may have been posted before, but I haven't checked). If your car has an oil filter that points downwards, e.g. the open end is lower than the covered end, it is difficult to get the filter out -
dipstick Pump for oil changing ?? 16 Aug 2001 (Forum)
& oil change every 6 months will not do any actual harm and hopefully allow the engine to do a few more miles. On a slightly different tack a farmer friend offers me Castrol tractor oil with a API-CG4 which is what my handbook says is ok. Half the price. Can anyone tell me if this is not suitable -
Lidl Oil Suction Pump 16 May 2016 (Forum)
Up until today I've resisted the temptation to try the suction method come oil change time, in the belief that it can't be as good as removing the drain plug and letting gravity do it's thing. But today the Mrs dragged me into Lidl and I saw this: http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-2491 -
Mazda 2 - New car to run in 20 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I have a new Mazda 2 1.3 petrol coming next week. I have looked at the running in for a petrol engine and keeping the standard oil until the first oil change. But was wondering if I could put in a straight mineral oil for say 4000 miles and build the revs with higher revs at times without -
rover 214 - porous sump?? 15 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Took the 214 in for its MoT today - passed again first time, as of yet never failed one now which is not bad considering its on 115,000 all it gets is an oil change and a wash once a year. Anyway there is an advisory for a new sump as current one has gone porus - I assumed it was the sump plug -
Another poorly Fiesta 1.1L 10 Nov 2003 (Forum)
with 93K miles on the clock. The bodywork is sound, but the back box is about to drop off (£30 to replace). I changed the oil and air oil filters at the weekend - being a bit of a novice I think I might have made an error somewhere. The oil I used was Castrol magnetec (It was the only oil they had -
Ford fiesta - Oil light stays on then service message next day 30 Apr 2023 (Forum)
to near max this morning, took for a half hour drive but light stayed on. I’ve then just started the car and the ‘oil change due next service’ warning has come on and this makes sense as last service was 11k ago, but this is nearly 24 hours after the light first came -
audi A6 2.7TDI oil change 8 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Just bought a nearly new A6 2.7 TDI - surprised to see the service indicator say that there is 14500 miles to go before service required. It has 4000 on the clock - I'm pretty amazed this is good for any engine, longlife oil or otherwise, to do 18000+ from new on factory oil - any thoughts? I'm -
Changing Coolant 12 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Does the coolant in a car need to be changed on a periodic basis? If so how after how long?? Any other fluids (apart from oil) that need changing in a car?? -
Vauxhall Vectra C 1.8 VVT - Cam belt change - hot dry climate 27 Oct 2010 (Forum)
(Dec 2006) until November 2009, and has been in Cyprus ever since. Opel dealer also suggests oil changes (GM approved fully synthetic oil) every 5000 miles. My service book recommends oil changes every 20,000 miles / 1 year, and a cam belt change every 100,000 miles / 10 years. Will the warmer, dustier -
Oil Extractor Pumps - are they worth it? 25 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Hey all, I need to change the oil on my car but can't really afford a service. I was thinking of using one of those extractor pumps instead of draining the oil the traditional way. Will this be a good enough substitute? Some people say yes -
Peugeot 308 1.4l - Oil consumption 29 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Year 2008 Peugeot 308 1.4l petrol engine [ Prince/Bmw motor? ] requires frequent topping up of oil. It is using less than the manual states as normal but has to be watched. Is this a design/fault with the engine and can I or should I do anything to reduce the oil consumption. The oil has been -
Citroen Berlingo - Low oil pressure 23 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I have a warning message on my display that says "low oil pressure". I have just changed the oil filter and oil and now this warning is showing up. Everything was fine beforehand. I have a 2009 Citroen Berlingo 1.6 HDI Diesel / 78600 km. I was wondering -
Nissan Micra 1.0 - 20w/40 oil in a Micra? 16 Aug 2010 (Forum)
01 Micra 1.0 K11, 98k miles The oil needs a little top up every 3 months or so. Normally, I use 15W/40 oil. This time I bought some el-cheapo 20W/40 oil from Morrisons supermarket. Will this affect the engine adversely, part from maybe a slight performance change? -
Oil prices 24 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I want to do an interim change on my Merc c220 cdi. The recommended oil is Castrol 0-30 or Mobil 1. But with it needing 5.5 litres the cost is between £60-£80 because I will need 2*4 litre cans. Am I being too picky and would a similar grade semi-synthetic oil be OK? Or is there somewhere -
VW TDI, which oil? 28 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Despite asking several VW dealers I've never got a definitive answer on which oil I should use in a year 2000 golf non-PD TDI (90bhp). I currently use SLX Long life which is a quality oil but is expensive and may be an over kill considering I change the oil every 4000 miles/6 months -
Oil changing - myths and urban legends 8 May 2005 (Forum)
I always like to keep one eye on some other motoring forums, sometimes for nothing other than entertainment value. I recently read a post about changing oil on Imprezas where it was so important to protect the big end bearings that it was recommended that the filter be filled with oil before -
oil again 25 Apr 2002 (Forum)
to try it on the best oil I can get, and am hence contemplating Mobil 1 with 6-monthly changes (approx 5l miles). The cost doesnt bother me too much. What I have heard are rumours that it is too thin, and doesnt provide the turbo shaft with a sufficient cushion of oil on startup. As it is recommended -
