Peugeot 308 1.4l - Oil consumption - Tom Dee

Year 2008 Peugeot 308 1.4l petrol engine [ Prince/Bmw motor? ] requires frequent topping up of oil. It is using less than the manual states as normal but has to be watched. Is this a design/fault with the engine and can I or should I do anything to reduce the oil consumption. The oil has been changed frequently and the car has 70,000 miles on it ....

Provided its running OK and the oil consumption is not truly horrendous just keep topping it up and driving. But do ensure you don't let it fall too much if you want to keep the cash in your pocket.

Some cars just use more oil than others. Its all down to manufacturing tolerences. It does not mean there is a fault with them.

Seconded, and if the consumption has not changed over time, no worries.

Just buy oil that meets the required spec in a 5 litre pack to keep costs down, and wedge a litre bottle in the spare wheel well so you've got a supply if you're on a long trip / away from home for a length of time.

Are there any drips or smoky exhaust? Mileage is pretty moderate for a recent car. Has the consumption increased lately?

Can't see any leaks and exhaust is clear. Engine has always required topping up of oil. Consumption level has not changed..
