  • Unbalanced Rear Wheels - Peugeot 306 12 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hi All, Advice on the following appreciated: A few days ago I had the rear tyres changed on my 306. Since then, there has been a fair bit of vibration whilst braking. Can anyone confirm that this would be a symptom of poorly balanced wheels please? Thanks in advance.
  • vectra cutting out 3 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have a 1997 2.0 vectra, the problem is that if sat ticking over at say traffic lights with foot on brake the engine will just cut out after about 30 seconds, will restart immediately, if left ticking over by itself will idle with no problems, as it did for it's mot last week for best part
  • Car services dreadful - it's official 23 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Yet another investigation into garages has come out smelling of something less fragrant than roses: "Alarmingly, 36% of cars were returned with major faults - including brake failure - unrepaired." Here's the link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4111534.stm
  • Auto Renault struggles after idling 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I've got a P reg, automatic Renault Laguna 3.0 v6, when waiting in traffic or at lights when I pull away the car struggles briefly then is ok. It's as if the acceleration doesn't kick in straight away or the brake is stuck - any ideas what it could be? Thanks
  • Black boxes 8 Oct 2004 (Forum)
All new cars sold in the USA will be required to have a black box fitted. It seems they will be able to check out the way the car is driven, speed, hard braking etc and store it for later viewing. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,132056,00.html How long before it happens here ? Perhaps
  • Pug 306 Bent Hub? 29 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I had a wheel bearing replaced by a Unipart garage. They said they had difficulties removing the old bearing. Ever since there has been a brake shudder from this side. I tried new disks, but there the rotation was still eccentric. What else can it be? A bent hub or misaligned bearing?
  • Passat Recall 6 Oct 2003 (Forum)
My 52 Passat recently went in for a 20,000 mile service. While it was there they performed a modification required as a result of a product recall. What would this be? Had a letter through regarding the Mk IV Golf I got rid of last year requiring the braking system to be checked, but the letter
  • range Rover and London bus indicators 1 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Has anyone noticed the new indicator and brake lights fitted to Range Rovers and London buses. They are so instantaneous and suddenly bright that you don't notice them. The more normal bulbs with a filament are much easier to see. Another triumph of form over substance?

  • noise when reversing 6 Dec 2002 (Forum)
i have a 6 yr old Seat Toledo gt with 55k on the clock it makes a funny noise when I reverse.. a loud groaning type noise. I have assumed that it is either a sticking brake or a worn/ binding wheel bearing. I only get this noise when reversing. Any thoughts?
  • Range Rover - 3 Spoke 18" Alloys 9 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Thinking of changing the supplied five 18" brake dust traps with these easier to keep clean jobbies. Anyone know where the best prices are likely to be? Dealer prices quoted were silly of course. Quite happy to look at reconditioned or light used.
  • VW Bettle stop lights 27 Mar 2002 (Forum)

  • Car lighting 6 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I seem to be getting through brake light/headlight bulbs at an alarming rate these days. At one time they lasted forever. Do these things have a fixed hour burn thats got shorter to get us to buy more? Will 42 volt electrical systems improve bulb life? What about fibre optic technology?

I took it in for a brake fluid service (£97.00!!!) the service manager said that I need a new clutch!!!! He blamed driver 'error' or the fact that I live in a hilly area - I told him that I'd not needed a new clutch since 1968, so it was unlikely to be my error. I took the car to two
