I have a 1997 2.0 vectra, the problem is that if sat ticking over at say traffic lights with foot on brake the engine will just cut out after about 30 seconds, will restart immediately, if left ticking over by itself will idle with no problems, as it did for it's mot last week for best part of an hour.

hello mate does the problem when you come to astop at a junction if it does i would say idle speed control valve is sticking either take it apart and clean out with carb spray or buy na new one but you could try taking it off and cleaning it and see if that cures the problem hope this helps

problem only occurs if foot is on the brake so I don't think is the idle valve but something on the vacum side of servo

When you are stopped at the lights are you in gear with the clutch in ,a sure sign of clutch grab.

I still think you are right with Idle speed control valve. A common failing is the valve sticks slightly just above its desired idle, ECU winds the motor back to correct this but the valve sticks then all of a sudden lets go, before the ECU can wind the valve open again it has stalled. Take the valve off, split the valve from the motor and wash it all clean with carb cleaner. Do the same with the throttle butterfly and make sure the breather port on the side of the throttle body is clear (1.5mm drill). Fire it up and let it idle for a few minutes and check it has settled to its proper speed, a little under 1000 rpm. Clout the idle motor and listen for any change in revs, if it does change or stall change it.

had the very problem on a vectra my self and found it to be a bad connection in the loom.lots of wires are linked and are crimped together between the two fuel and ign relays and the ecu.run the engine and pull on the loom between the fuse box on the n/s wing and ecu under wipers if it cuts out you may be on track but it may not start again untill you make the repair
