  • It's Genevieve day! 6 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Yes the umpteenth running of the world famous London to Brighton classic car rally is held today. Isn't it time though they changed the entry rules though? Cars must be pre 1905 in order to qualify. Maybe if the had a rolling 100 year minimum it would create more interest? I'm sure there's lots

  • 1989 Golf GTi 16v high pitched whine 29 May 2005 (Forum)
My beloved 1989 Golf GTi 16 has developed a sharp whine that increases through the rev range. I have checked the 'fan' belt and the pulley for the alternator. With no belt in place the noise continues and that rules out the water pump. The cam belt was replaced recently and the car was running well
  • Focus 1.8 LX Lambda sensor req'd? 5 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Friends 2000 1.8LX Focus had an emissions test this weekend. At idle: HC=OK, CO=OK BUT Lambda = 1.15 The Lambda figure stayed the same at all revs up to 4000. HC and CO still within limits at all speeds. Car runs and drives okay. What is the backroom opinion - new lambda sensor required maybe?

  • Corsa temperature sender probs 29 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Corsa 1.4L 1996 87K Hi all, I noticed the temp. gauge not working. I earthed the lead off to the body with ignition on & the gauge moved to hot. Today I replaced the temp. sender & put a new contact on the end of lead. Took it for a good 20min run tonight but it still doesn't show any temp. Am I
  • Traffic light on red - means what? 27 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Call me old-fashioned, but I always thought red meant STOP - don't enter the intersection, etc. etc. The current and increasing trend seems to be to tailgate the traffic through the lights long after red has appeared. By stopping I run the risk of being rear-ended. (So that's it!) Maybe I should
  • Bull bars. Current situation? 24 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Has the fad for fitting bull bars to new vehicles almost run its course? My impression is that I see fewer vehicles with them fitted. Still too many on older vehicles! The oddest sight was bull bars on a Smart car. Are cheese graters on side lights no longer thought to be trendy? I hope so
  • 4- to 5-speed gearbox - '89 Escort 1.3 24 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Hi I'm considering, (for the second year running!) swapping the gearbox in my car from a 4-speed to a 5-speed unit, as the noise on motorways is starting to annoy! My question is, what things need swapping apart from the gearbox? i.e. gearbox linkage, driveshafts, mounts. Thanks for any input
  • Tyres Audi Quattro 31 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I am miffed that the tyres on my S3 Audi Quattro are almost at the limit of legal tread depth after just 9000 miles from new in fourteen months. The rear end is worse than the front. Running on 225/45 R17 91Y Bridgestone Potenza RE 040. Definitely not happy to replace with these. Any suggestions

  • DVLA Computer Checks on Saturdays?? 30 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Hiya... Toddled off to tax Polo today, realised on the way that the MOT wasn't actually in the glove compartment but must be somewhere else at home. Assuming I find it, and tax the car on Saturday (wont be able to do it on Friday), am I going to get fined? The tax runs out on the 31st
  • Typical lifetime of a diesel injector? 20 Jan 2004 (Forum)
What is the typical lifetime of a diesel injector, before it needs replacing? I would be interested to know what other diesel users have experienced. I believe haynes suggest replacing at 80k for a pug 306. Mines is on 127k and original injectors, and is running okay. However, fuel consumption

  • MagSub 10 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I, too, have had incredible difficulty in having a sub re-funded. I've been chasing this up for months and just getting the run-around. However, at the time I renewed I did so by credit card, and since the publisher ( a most appropriately named one ) kept my money but didn't send the mag
