Hiya...

Toddled off to tax Polo today, realised on the way that the MOT wasn't actually in the glove compartment but must be somewhere else at home.

Assuming I find it, and tax the car on Saturday (wont be able to do it on Friday), am I going to get fined? The tax runs out on the 31st... but by the end of the 31st, the car will be taxed.

Am I panicking over nothing?

Yes.

The answer is NO. No Fine as long as it is taxed on Saturday. Peter

Yes to panicking over nothing.

The new fine/VED supplement only kicks in if you are still untaxed 30 days after expiry. Theoretically you could be done from sunday on for using untaxed/failing to display, but in practice if you are that unlucky you had better stay home anyway!!

No Dosh... no comment!

I've been and taxed Polo but... you know that form you get to remind you to tax your car, that you have to tick what sort of tax you want, sign and hand over with your money? They've given it back to me with a receipt attached, along with a new tax disk (lilac with cut out stars on - very pretty!)

This is the first time I've had this form back, should I still have it?

PG,

Just taxed my car over lunchtime and same result...form returned with receipt. Couterstaff explained that with the new system (scanning both disc and form) the information is on the computer before you depart the PO. They no longer do any paperwork etc.

cheers

You will have noticed when the Counterhand issued the Licence, she/he zapped a Bar Code reader over the Bar Code on the reminder form and the Bar Code on the new Licence. Wonders of modern science the fact that you have renewed electronically sent to DVLA.

Tip from an Old Codger. Get yourself an old wire coat hanger and straighten it out. Curl one end to hang over a nail/hook. The other end a small circle. Now when faced with bits of paper like you now have, old paid bills, receipts etc etc, don't bin them, pierce them onto the wire and hang away. Surprising how useful that can be months later when you want a certain item.

Thanks!

So how long will it be before I can have an email/text reminder telling me to tax Polo, go to a secure online site and pay it, and not have to actually have a tax disk because all the details will be on a central computer? Would save about a million trees a year I reckon, and would save me having to queue up with the whinging pensioners at the post office.

In fact, why do I need a tax disk now if it's already on this great DVLA computer, and the ANPR system?

Rant

The way things are going round our way there won't be any Post offices left.

PoloGirl - young lady - Don't knock the oldies - one day you will be a whingeing pensioner in your wrinkly stockings and smelling of cats. You will complain because they have closed down your local post office and its a 5 mile bus ride to the next town to get your pension.

Seriously - thats the way things are going , the post offices want paperless transactions and apparently take no account of local feelings when arbitrarily closing down your local office.

Same with the banks - no idea of customer service.

End of Rant.
