  • VW Bora suspension bushes 1 Mar 2004 (Forum)
My brother-in-law runs a 2001 VW Bora. His wife took it in for a service recently and there is an item on the bill; "Replace leaking rear axle suspension bushes". Are these bushes fluid filled? Is it a known issue? Last time I had anything to do with suspension bushes was on a Triumph Toledo 20
  • Wrap up your engine to save fuel 8 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I see that a German professor at Cologne Tecnical College has developed a new thermal jacket for a car`s engine, that is claimed to save 5% fuel even during the summer months, apart from the obvious benefit of quieter running. It seems one of the prestige German manufacturers
  • Diesel clean 20 Aug 2003 (Forum)
HJ's recent column mentioned running diesels at high revs to clean out various elements. Any advice on the method to adopt? Sit in the drive in neutral with throttle down and sort out the nieghbour's washing? Or as one thread had it, go through the gears up to the red line and re-surface the road
  • ZX Diesel Hot Starting 18 Aug 2003 (Forum)
My ZX diesel is a first time starter from cold every time. As it gets warm it gets progressivly harder to start. After a 30 minute run it will not restart on starter. However, if I get it moving at walking pace it will bump start easily. Tried everything, glows, fuel cut off soledoid, air leaks
  • Hyundai any good ?? 5 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Hyundai must have great confidence in their products, to offer them with a full 5 year warranty, - I was wondering if anybody in the B.R. has got one, and their opinions on their merits or problems. Following an article in last weeks Sunday Times on the disposable car, it is very tempting to run
  • Views on the Audi A2 23 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Thinking of replacing my Missus' run about Fiesta with an A2 this Summer. We like its quirkiness & individuality without looking too extrovert etc. and appreciate the quality of the cabin. We thought the best model to go for may be an ex-demo 1.4 SE (£11k-£13k) Any Back-Roomers have any brief
  • VW Golf electrics 17 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Something strange is happening to my wife's Golf Mk3. It is not particularly a problem but more a nuisance. The digital clock resets itself to midnight every now and then. My first thought it that the battery is somehow disconecting itself but this sounds a bit strange as the car runs around

  • Revised Mondeo due? 20 Jan 2003 (Forum)
New Mondeo Ambientes (one up from the base model in Europe) have just been advertised in Saudi for under £8,000 equivalent. This is usually the sign for the run-out of current models. Haven't seen any news of this. There again, the Nissan X-trail auto is selling for £10,500 locally, so it may
  • Non-stick car 20 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Whilst washing a non-stick pan and noticing the water run off as if it had been waxed the thought came to me why not apply the finish to cars, imagine just having to hose the dirt off and never needing to wax it ever. There must be a reason why this process has not been applied before... cost
  • oil consumption 12 Jan 2003 (Forum)
l have recently bought a peugeot 405 2ltr petrol, l've had to top-up the oil roughly every 3 weeks, each time the oil level drops half way between the high and low marks on the dipstick (about 3/4 of a litre), the car runs fine does not smoke and there appears to be no external leaks, is this oil
  • Alfa Romeo 156 Sunroof water leak 10 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Has anyone had experience of this? Water seems to have run down the a-pillar (cloth lining on a-pillar and around sunroof is soaked) and then soaked the front passenger footwell. I've heard the drain holes might be blocked but when I push a wire down them, it stops after about 2 feet. Suggestions?

  • Fuel Filter Change Mk2 Golf GTI 10 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Any pointers where the fuel filter is on a 86 Golf GTI 8v???!! I've temporarily lost my Haynes manual and its been a LONG time since I last changed it!! Also is it still best practise to remove the fuse of the fuel pump and run the car till it stops? Many Thanks Tim
  • Leather seats 5 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Some good advice a week or so on this site about the value of metalic paint on a new car. I was wondering what leather seats on an Audi A4 or A6 did for the resale. I do like the comfort of leather ( easy to fidget in on a long run - the synthetic cloth seats grip like velcro). However it costs
  • Faint smell of fumes in car 15 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Got a 1992 Citroen ZX non-turbo diesel 90,000. Runs well etc. Hardly burns much oil. Checked exhaust system and tailgate and bonnet seals. Checked engine bulkhead for holes etc. but still getting faint fumes through air vents. Engine exterior is clean. Grateful for any ideas because I'm lost.
  • Ford Fiesta 1.6 TDCI 2011 - Kinked oil/breather pipe, could this cause issue? 4 Dec 2023 (Forum)
Just noticed this on a car I purchased recently. It looks like a DIY repair. Would this cause any issues? I was concerned about the kink. Not sure how critical this pipe is to the running of the engine overall. https
  • Honda Civic - Honda spares prices? 3 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Looking for a sub £2K small automatic for a relative. We're close to bangernomics at this price I know. On my "to view" list ATM is a 04 Honda Civic with around 80K miles. Good MOT history, but I'm told that running an old Honda can be problematic because of the price of parts compared
