Peugeot Partner Teepee - Advice on buying a small van/car second hand 11 Jun 2013 (Forum)
We're a tv production company with 4 young drivers and we're ready to buy our first company van, second hand! T he boot needs to be of decent size to fit cameras, tripods etc in, but as most of us are under 25 we are looking for one in a low insurance category. -
Insurance for "chav" mods 19 Apr 2006 (Forum)
A question for all you young lads or for the insurance experts My nearly 19 year old son is changing his car from the ancient VW Golf he had to practise in. He is looking at a 7 or 8 year old VW Polo - likely a 1.4 (please no comments about the car - that's his choice). -
Oops is the word needed. 20 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Hi all, On a lighter note this one. As i work in an aircraft apprentice school with lots of young drivers, male and female, i posted up a list of speed camera locations in our local area. I hope it will slow them down a little. Some hope ! One lad was reading the lists and mentioned that he'd just been given 3 points. -
Car accident 7 Nov 2010 (Forum)
She had been driven the car. The other driver admitted not stopping in time and that it was his fault. We then pulled over at the next services and phoned the insurance company. the drivers details checked out and our car was booked in for repairs. -
Vauxhall Zafira Tourer - Serious injury by angerous driving charge?? 13 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Six days later we received an email from the police officer stating they have injury claims for 2 passengers and the driver, claiming to be minor and 1 major injury to the young girl mentioned (apparently several facial lacerations, one down to the bone) he has stated he needs to get a statement from the girl now she is out of hospital but they are going on holiday so the investigation will be delayed by a week or so. -
Advice on stopping boy racers please 22 Nov 2006 (Forum)
What do I have to do to get a reaction from the local constabulary, who it has to be said, are dismal? Do I have to get killed by such a driver, or do I have to watch someone else get killed? Then, doubtless, there would be outcry in the papers and the police would say how sorry they were and that they have been offering driver training for young people etc. etc. to which I would say "Three times I reported someone who is an accident waiting to happen, and you lot did nothing". -
Minor Bump 9 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Aware that the Juke was very close, I indicated very early for my road and slowed gradually, but on turning in to my road, the Juke hit my rear bumper and lights. Not much damage to either car, but more annoying was the abuse I got from the young lady driver- it was my fault, I was going to slowly in a 40 zone etc. When I pointed out it was 30, I was called a liar and various other things!. I have been called many things when I am out and about in my clerical collar, but I dont think I've been called a liar before! -
Drunk driver - Hip Flask defense 25 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Another witness saw the rtc and phoned it in as he drove off (hit a hedge so no other vehicle damaged), they have also identified the person we saw as the driver. He's not a young chap, I'd say over 60. My question is will the back calculation prove he WAS drunk at the time of driving? Or does he have a chance of getting off? Will the courts give him a heftier sentence for lying? -
Insurance, remarkable value for money 24 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Some young people spend what we spend on a year's car insurance on a night out. How long can this go on, will we see massive rises in coming years? Will the state, for instance, get round to invoicing the insured held to blame for state (police, coroner, hospital etc) costs for accidents where fatal and serious injuries result leading to apparently huge £1m+ costs? -
09 plate winners and losers 14 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Obviously it's hard to tell with vanity plates, but I haven't seen any 09 plate Range Rovers, 7 series Beemers, very few MPVs and ever fewer hot hatches (although the latter may be due to young male drivers not being able to get finance). What have you seen (or not, as the case may be)? -
The Hi-Vis tunics should have been a clue!.... 26 Jun 2008 (Forum)
By the next layby, the BMW was shepherding him in. Point is, I saw the tunics - and it didn't bother me because I wasn't speeding. Why didn't young C2 driver see them?Maybe he should have got a 'driving without due care and attention' charge to go with the inevitable speeding ticket I'm sure he headed home with. -
Water Ingress-VW Passat 1.8T Estate 2 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Other sites/bulletin boards suggest drains blocked under battery, or, sun roof rain channels blocked or pollen filter housing leaking-but pollen filter is on passenger side. I'd love to keep the car as otherwise its been OK, but as have young children in the car, unless someone out there can come up with a solution, it has to go. Any ideas anyone? -
Intimidation, what do i do? 15 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Nothing as you'd would expect from a sensible person like me. But i'm sick of this, absolutly sick to death of being intimidated by mainly van or lorry drivers who use there size to intimidate me by pushing me down the road.. So how to I deal with this virtually daily occurence? I can't take much more. -
Boy racers 3 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Parked outside Halfords waiting for eldest son to drag himself away from bicycle dept. when a fancy looking small Pug covered in chrome and alloy bits and pieces pulled up at the side of me and out gets young driver with a bit of a stunner girl friend. I was just about to call after them that he'd left the engine running when he turned round, pointed his key at the car and switched the engine off. What a poseur thinks I (or something like that). -
Mechanical sympathy 3 Aug 2018 (Forum)
The almost continuous tinkering with an old car to keep it as good as possible was part of the motoring experience and the word driver implied some mechanical knowledge. Most drivers brought up on these vehicles would have learned some mechanical sympathy and perhaps still have it. I wonder if we are expecting too much from todays motoring crowd who are brought up on vehicles with dynamic qualities plus comfort and ease of use we could only have dreamed of combined with perhaps just one annual visit to the garage. -
Land Rover Freelander 2 (2006 - ) - Stationary but the Insurance want 50/50 21 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Her first comment was about 4x4 drivers! This girl had attitude with capital A. There was no way she could of ever got through & I still don't know how she passed even with the damage. now my good old insurance company bless them want me to accept knock for knock as there are no witnesses for me but the saxo driver had a passenger!. -
Ford Focus 07 - Headlight electrical fault 23 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I would have thought a 3 and a 1/2 year old car is very young to be developing electrical faults? We have the lights set auto generally so they are on more often than I'd probably do manually but that wouldn't explain the it being one particular side. -
Begging - On The Motorway!! 14 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Obviously only had enough £$£$ raised for a few miles worth of petrol! Dangerous, stupid & no doubt there are enough helpful, but not so street wise other drivers that will help these people out. VB -
Rover 214 Advice Please! 14 Feb 2006 (Forum)
But then isn't every car (ok, maybe not the american muscles... But they aint exactly common cars over in the UK). As I am a young driver, this is to be my first car. As I look at it, I like the look of the Rover 214, I think it looks nice and am definately not into doing a car up to make it look better, if I wanted a fast car that sticks out like a sore thumb, I'd get a mustang. -
Zig Zag Zones 6 Mar 2003 (Forum)
What can be done? Is it lack of driver education or is there too little enforcement? The Highway Code is not really clear about these markings, I quote, " Keep entrance clear of stationary vehicles, even if picking up or setting down children " It would have been better worded if it said, ' Keep entrance clear of stationary vehicles, NO PICKING UP OR SETTING DOWN IN THIS ZONE ' (Maybe I'm wrong and these zones do allow pick ups, DVD can you clarify?)
