Volkswagen Touran (2010 - 2015)
SE 1.6 TDi 105 5dr MOV
Great overall MPV
My wife and I were looking for a mid-sized seven seater because our second baby is coming. For most part, we wanted a 80% car that was also 20% a seven seater - and we went down the route of another Volkswagen. It fits our lifestyle as we do not need seven seats on a regular basis but only when family and friends come to visit.
I previously drove a Volkswagen 1.6 Golf MK5 and we also have a Toyota Auris 1.6 Hybrid as well, so we could do a VW vs Toyota comparison as both are cars in the same category of small family cars. Here, the VW wins hands down in terms of comfort and driving experience, but not necessarily fuel consumption (for obvious reasons).
During test drives, we were surprised how well the Touran drives - it does not feel like you are driving a seven seater MPV, more like a car (similar to our previous Golf). The driving height is good and there are lots of cubby holes to store things. We ended up buying a 1.6 TDi SE, which has a good trim and we love it! Fuel consumption is good for a seven seater.
Some state that the design of the car is "so-so" or even boring, but it's actually growing on me.
Overall, we are happy with our purchase and this car looks to be a keeper.
