Overall reliability

A solid, well-built, reliable vehicle which does all that we want from it.

Had this car for just one year now and covered 14,500 trouble-free miles. It is solid and well-built, the doors close with a reassuring clunk, all the controls feel chunky and the interior is durable. On the road the handling is very predictable and safe, cornering is controlled, the brakes are positive and the interior durable.

The Touran is used as family transport by my wife and I, occasionally with grandchildren, hence the necessity for seven seats or the luggage space (buggies, child seats when not in use etc.) Our driving is mostly local with weekly trips of 60 miles return and has give a remarkable fuel consumption of 54.2mpg of diesel.

I am disappointed with the DSG gearbox in that there is the well documented delay when coming off the footbrake to accelerate, also when accelerating from a slow speed the car will drop to a very low gear and lurch forward, this will usually occur when going up an incline. My other automatic with a conventional gearbox does not have these problems.

For the price and the low running costs, especially the meagre fuel consumption I could find no other vehicle that was better. I will replace this Touran with another in two years time, but buy the SE rather than the S because of the extra driver aids.
