Volkswagen Tiguan (2008 - 2016)
2.0 TDI 184 R-Line Edition BlueMotion Technology DSG 4Motion 5dr SUV
Much better than I expected.
After a series of hot Audis and 2 Sciroccos, old age finally made me change to an SUV.
However, having become accustomed to a bit of 'urge' under the bonnet, only the 184 bhp engine would do.
It certainly shifts for an SUV. and keeps up with traffic no problem.Although the DSG box works well! It goes best in sport mode although sadly there are no paddles.
Left in drive, it will immediately try to get in the 7th gear asap.
As with all VW higher powered diesels, the acceleration is strong and even driven at continuous high speeds (French Motorways) the mpg never drops below 40. The average for 24,000 miles is 42, which I consider acceptable.
I am happy with almost all of the car. The seating position is good, with loads of (electrical) adjustment.
Being the R line version, it is fitted with all the bells and whistles including full leather and Zenon headlamps which are excellent. The satnav is excellent and picks up broad cast road information- even in France!!
We have been there numerous times for extended holidays and for 2 people, there is loads of space for stuff.
There is even a spare wheel and jack etc. as well.
Tyre wear is good and I am still on the original Bridgestone's which still have 3mm tread left. (After 24,000 miles)
There are some downsides.
The suspension is described as sports by VW. which means it's fine on smooth tarmac but can get a bit bumpy on poor surfaces. The tyres are noisy as well. However, the road holding is surprisingly good for a tall car.
The Ad Bluesystem is a pain to refill. The filler is in the bottom of the boot under the floor and spare wheel. Everything has to be removed to get at it. From experience, it needs refilling every 4000 ish miles. Do it yourself, don't take it to a VW dealer. You can get 10 Ltr from Morrisons for £11.
The parking sensors can get somewhat 'hyper' and manoeuvring in a tight space can be irritating. with loads of 'beeps'
However, I have become quite fond of the car and it has been totally reliable so far.
I have had no problems with the DPF etc and the car feels as if it would go on for years
