2018 T-Roc burnt out clutch after 2.5 yrs

Car is approaching the end of it s 3yr warranty (expires 31/3/21) and the clutch has started making a very strong burning smell. It is not heavily driven and only does country roads/lanes. VW say it needs a new clutch and possibly flywheell. Never had this problem on any car that is so new - we have a 15 plate VW Polo with >45k miles and no problem there.
VW say the T-Roc worn out clutch is because of driver use so no warranty or dealer compensation. Having looked online, it seems many T-Rocs have this problem. I would not buy another T-Roc. Shame as apart from this it is a very good car.
