Volkswagen Golf (2004 - 2008)
2.0 TDi GT 140 Sport 5dr Hatchback
Comfort, quality, power and versatility
My first VW Golf having waited years to be able to afford one.....and so worth it.
Having owned many cheap, used cars, mostly petrol, i finally had the chance to afford a used Golf. With a budget of £5k and after lots of searching i decided it had to be the MK V 2.0 TDi GT 140 Sport face-lift model. Good looking, practical in size, great trim level and a 140hp diesel engined. No more would my car struggle fully loaded with people and luggage whilst driving around the hills of England on holiday.
As it had come with a standard FM radio and low end 15 inch alloys i quickly changed these for an after market 7 inch touchscreen and some 17 inch spoked VW alloys with Toyo TR1 sport tyres. Other standard equipment such as rain sensing wipers and auto lights were brilliant features i can no longer live without. Sporty seats that hug you and little details in the trim, soft plastics, a cabin that never squeaked or rattled (unlike so many Fords i'd owned before), lots of storage space, a generous boot and an engine that just pulled and pulled whether fully loaded or not. MPG was great on long journeys, around 55+ and good around town at an average of 47+, even when i wasn't driving frugally.
6 speed gear box and brakes that were incredible, surefooted at speed and torque that accelerated the car very impressively, this car was a joy in all conditions.
The introduction of the ULEZ is what has regrettably forced me to sell this amazing car.
