Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer (2016 - 2022)
1.4T 150ps Elite Nav Auto 5dr
So far a great all round family car
For the money it really surprises me just how good it is. The 150ps engine pulls really strongly from a fairly low down 2000 rpm through to 5,500 and always feels punchy and responsive. The 6 speed auto is very smooth and intuitive, just as good as in my old Lexus. Fuel economy good at 43mpg long term average with mixed driving. Fuel tank is small to save weight so expect more frequent fill ups.
Elite Nav trim has leather and heated seats, steering wheel, but mine misses out on many of the more fancy features. Power boot would be nice, and maybe a sunroof, check specs, don't assume Elite means fully loaded. General fit and finish feels upmarket with no squeaks or rattles, though some scuttle shake. Also driver seat adjuster knob has fallen off already which dampens confidence in material quality slightly. No reverse camera but front and rear sensors with display do a good job. 8 inch infotainment screen is flush to dash and looks epic, works well with Android Auto too, sound quality from speakers rich with good fidelity. Drivers seat had an aggressive lumbar support at first but I set it to the lowest setting and cranked the seat up high, now it's fine, maybe just me. Rear leg and headroom is like flying BA first class, no complaints from passengers, even on long journeys. Boot is a great size. Ours doen't have a spare wheel (gel and compressor instead) so loads of hidden underfloor storage for bags etc. Had 4 adults, a child seat, two dogs and a days worth of provisions in it for a day trip and no complaints from anyone. Fold down seats and it can haul a dining table with chairs, or you can camp in it! It's roomy, comfy, performant, economical, smooth and enjoyable to own. No beauty queen but not offensive either, looks fine. Just don't expect folk to find it exciting, it has a boring/dull stigma.
