Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer (2016 - 2022)
Astra sports tourer Elite Nav. 136
Unbelievable
Heading into my 70's I was looking for an affordable car with a little bit of luxury. I always usually bought base model cars. My father was a Vauxhall fan back in the 1950's and 60's with a brace of Wyverns and then a twin headlight Victor. He was a mechanic and ran a fleet of coaches.
So of course the last car I ever wanted to own was a Vauxhall. Fast forward to 2016 and reading up on cars, the Astra K was voted car of the year or something and I knew that the New Focus was coming out the year later. I had had a test drive in the previous model Astra the J model. and did not like it one bit. So now the model had changed I went for another test drive. What a difference, so much so I started looking for one. I had been driving diesel cars since 1990 so I wasn't going to change now and reading up on the engine (Renault) it was the future, with the DPF filter bolted to the manifold. Thus helping reduce the problems with these DPF filters.
I originally bought a Elite nav hatchback but prior to picking it up I noticed for a little extra the dealer had just taken delivery of an estate model with all the extras I wanted.136 bhp engine, Metallic paint, spare wheel, and the Nav model. with leather seats, parking sensors etc, etc, etc. Retail price new £25,000+ now 6 months old with 3,600 miles £14750 a bargain. and they part exd. my MX5.
I love driving the car, it's relaxed and comfy and the economical. On a recent trip to france 2,500 miles it averaged 75mpg ( on the digi readout). The Astra is my long distance car I only use it when travelling distances of over 20 miles (DPF reasons). It has been in for a recall and it did fail it's first MOT with a faulty steering column.!!! But it was replaced under warranty, I am having a small problem with the satnav system it does everything except when the address is entered and the green arrow acknowledges it it freezes. It works fine with speech, everything else works, the bit that lets you watch films on the screen , Android Auto, Maps etc, etc.
I was a little worried when the car was in for the recall work as they said it had to have a software update. As a little diddle on the specky thingy mi bob needed sorting( basically dieselgate same as the VW problem, but the French are better at how can I say sorting the problem out quietly) Anyway on a recent round trip to Birmingham the Astra returned a cracking 78mpg. Normal running I get in the low 60's. Todate the car has only done 15,000 miles because I have been off driving for a year with a slight medical problem all sorted now.
I have photos to prove these MPG.
My other car is a Dacia Sandero (2017) I use it as a run around to save the Astra. Cheap car but value for money. I am so pleased with it I will be looking to buy the new model next year and maybe upgrade to a stepway
