Toyota Yaris (2011 - 2020)
TR 1.33 VVT-i 5dr
Reliable runabout
Bought at 2.5 years old, owned for the past 5 years. Only had one issue to date - snapped nearside coil spring (when I got in the car, too many pies?!), fixed without question by Toyota under extended warranty.
Practical, reliable, not at all thirsty (50mpg on average), has squeezed in everything from fridges to 5 adults and their luggage.
You can retrofit cruise control/speed limiter to 1.33 engines just by adding the right buttons in the cockpit as the ECU has the code already, instructions and kits available on the Internet.
Interior plastics are cheap and starting to show their age, and the drive is a bit dreary, which is the only thing it loses a star for.
It so impressed my father (who has had a few cars in his life) he bought an identical Yaris for my sister, which has also been faultless.
