Toyota Prius (2009 - 2016)
T Spirit Hybrid 1.8 VVT-i 5dr Auto Hatchback
Smooth, silent and suitable for so much.
Jeremy Clarkson hates it. I love it. I would love it even more if it had smaller wheels and larger profile tyres. It is always wonderfully smooth to drive and mostly silent apart from road noise. And if you put it into Power mode with engine braking it is remarkably quick on twisty country roads. The suspension is not as compliant as it could be and the silly bling wheels don't help. Using full power is when you are aware it has a petrol engine. Unfortunately it then sounds strained and unattractive. As a hatchback it is roomy and practical. What is not so practical is the silly Dove-Gray boot lining; mine was filthy and stained within a month and the outside tailgate release that gets covered in mud. If you are buying one new specify the leather seats. They are much nicer than the standard.
Pros. Economical, silent, smooth and roomy.
Cons. 17" wheels, boot lining colour and to open the tailgate means getting filthy fingers.
