Suzuki Swift (2017 on)
1.0 Sz-T Boosterjet 5dr
Nice to drive, very good mpg, spoilt by exterior paint and cabin quality issues
The swift is nice to drive and has its own personality, like a Mini but better practiclality, the engine is responsive and the MPG average is around 52 mainly driving in town, the mechanicals are well executed. The seats are supportive, the suspension does a reasonable job on most uk roads. The car is easy to park, and relatively cheap to run aside from high depreciation.
The car lets itself down with:
I) tinny stereo and clunky aftermarket style touchscreen
2) the reversing camera does not work when the outside temperature is below 8 degrees, dealer said it was reprogrammed, this was a fob off no effect
3) the paintwork has numerous chips - over 50 on bonnet, roof and doors - I have never seen anything like it in 40 years of motoring, dealer said was not defective, I don't think a bonnet that needs a respray at 2/3 years is acceptable,
4) there is a constant fluttering noise by the drivers right ear on the door seal, the dealer sprayed silicon and some other compound to no effect. The noise is like an angry insect gets worse with poor uk road surfaces
5) there is a constant chafing noise around the cabin suggesting trim is flexing around cabin interior, if not quite rattling
6) the light build seems to negatively affect refinement
7)the tyre tread indicators come on when there is 4mm left on tyre, too sensitive
8) the auto lights are far too sensitive, they come on when it is slightly cloudy but still bright
9)the oil service warning light comes on 6 months after the last service and has to be cancelled manually in the trip function.
10) the rear door handles seized, they were replaced under warranty
The pricing of the Swift has led to money being saved in the cabin, I think there are some quality issues which affected my car which may have been resolved in later production
I will think twice before I buy another new model car again, I think Suzuki are releasing models before the quality control and testing is fully resolved.
Overall this could be a better car if the build quality was improved. I was disappointed I expected better of Suzuki.
