Overall reliability

Complete car with good safety, comfort, space and running costs

Needed to replace a Skoda Yeti 1.2 DSG, which was the most unreliable car that I have possessed or driven in more than 30 years. I.wanted a petrol automatic with good access, but the usual suspects really only supplied diesel versions, even though petrol cars were listed. I visited the new local Subaru dealership purely by chance, and realised that Subaru could provide a solution.
I have now had the Outback for just over 3 years and done more than 30,000 miles. In marked contrast to the Yeti, which stranded me 3 times in 3 years, there have been no problems, and the car passed its 1st MOT with no issues. Servicing varies between £275/300, annual insurance is c£250 (a significant benefit of the proven Subaru safety systems), and petrol consumption has hovered around 35 mpg, depending on the time of year. These figures compare favourably with those incurred with the Yeti, and, it seems, with many other smaller cars. They are certainly good for a large 4x4 petrol automaic estate.
The Outback is well equiped as befits the list price, and, although I did not particulary want such a large car, the space adds to the comfort of all passengers and saved me the hire of a van when moving house.
The CVT system works well and better than system in my wife's Auris hybrid.
Given the general switch to petrol powered vehicles, it is a shame that people seem unaware of just how good these cars are.
