20,000 mile follow-up review. Still five stars
Nearly two years since new and we've now covered 20,000 fault-free miles.
A few specific points to mention:
Economy: At the last time of writing, 47mpg and improving. Now closer to 49mpg. For a large 4x4 car that is amazing. There is the odd day when I find myself coveting a Landrover Discovery for its road presence. Then I remember that it would cost more than twice what we spend to run the Outback.
Space: We've now got a very boisterous 16 month old in the family and we can still easily fit in all the child clobber, our extensive holiday activity gear and the dog. It's a proper full-size car and not a slightly inflated hatchback like some 'competitors'.
4x4-ability:
Continued use on beaches, farm hill tracks and access to our own house in the depths of a Scottish Highland winter has impressed consistently. Particular highlights include making it easily through deep, sticky mud on a local shoot and driving through 2ft of snow to get onto our drive in the incredibly heavy snows of January 2013.
Subaru service:
We've been back to the dealership for one annual service and also dropped in to get a new rear wiper blade. Just as when we engaged with them to buy the car, the dealership staff are always polite, helpful and efficient. It's exactly what you want - service that you can rely on so you can just get on with other more important things in life.
Still can't recommend it highly enough.
