Excellent 3.6R - just like the 2.5, but even better...
Not sold in the UK anymore, but I have just bought a new 3.6R out here in the Middle East. Thirstier than my UK 2.5 CVT (3.6 does about 25-28mpg), but very smooth, much quicker and quieter. Equivalent of £24k new here, so much cheaper than the new price when it was on sale in the UK until last year.
Usual great Subaru dealer experience. Insurance and servicing included as part of deal and no car road tax to pay and only £15 to fill the tank, so not really comparable to the UK. If you can live with the fuel costs, it would make an excellent used buy. The ME spec is the same as the UK, except the (poor) standard sat nav isn't offered, so you get full leather, sunroof, reversing camera, powered memory seats etc.
It's the equivalent of a white-good out here, when compared with standard issue V8 Land Cruisers and Cayennes etc, and no-one drives estate cars here, but that makes it even more appealing really.
Not expecting to recoup much when it comes to selling, of course, as Subaru is still a minor brand here, but as the dealer offers a buy-back guarantee, it's not too traumatic.
