Excellent Company and Family Car

By the time I part with this car I will have driven over 80,000 miles in it. It is mainly used for business with most journeys involving motorways or dual carriageways so that clearly helps my MPG. Taking the business trips in isolation I regularly get over 60mpg but the MPG showing is a genuine real world figure. I had a free selection of company car and tried BMW 3 and 5 as well as Audi A4 and A6 and a Ford Mondeo and a Mazda 6 as well as the Skoda. I couldn't get on with BMWs rear wheel drive and after 30 minutes no one at the Ford dealership could get my iphone to connect to the car. The Mazda 6 failed as soon as I saw the head up display and then further fell away with the BIK on a 2.2 diesel, Both Audis were contenders - but they fell at cost particularly when you try to spec them to the same level as this SE L. Also their space in the A4 was limiting whilst the A6 felt massive on the road. So tough competition but the Skoda saw all of it away. My remaining concern was how it would stand up to the miles - fortunately it has been outstanding. As it got to 70k there is a bit of a rattle from the rear high level brake light. Aside from that the car has been faultlessly reliable and a work horse I would feel lost without. And on top of that it is excellent value. If you can put up with the Badge snobs (and this is easy if you consider how much more they are paying for a better badge) get one of these cars! I have ordered another and have gone for the DSG this time. Even with the rank stupidity of the Diesel cost/tax add on (which takes no account of the use the engine is put to - those of us obliged to do higher mileages are going to be amongst the least likely to pollute as the engines are mainly run hot) the car still makes financial sense. Will report back again in 3 years time.
