The sign on the rear windscreen said European Car of the Year, so it had to be good didn't it?
Coming from a Peugeot 107 Auto I wanted a car with a better ride and a bigger boot, and expected the famous VAG quality and Integrity.
The boot is a fabulous size for this type of car, and the ride is better than the Peugeot, but still choppy. The Interior looks a lot less cheap than the Peugeot, but a good driving position where I could see the whole speedometer was impossible to achieve, the most comfortable meant I couldn't see the 40-80 mph range.
If the Air Con wasn't used, the car misted up- period, regardless of how clever you were with the controls in really mild conditions. Poor. The windnoise was appalling from new, sent to the dealer for repair came back the same, and it wasn't until an Autoglass fitter replaced a cracked screen that it came within reasonable bounds. The Semi Auto transmission simply spoils the whole experience, being far too clever for its own good. Unlike the Peugeot's, which usually gave smooth, expected changes, this thing jerked and surprised both the driver and other traffic.
The doors bounce when you close them and the engine gives an ominous rattle when started from cold, "they all do that" according to the dealer. Never again.
