SEAT Leon (2013 - 2020)
FR 2.0 TDI 5dr Hatchback
Amazing value, fantastic experience.
Who'd have the Audi?
The level of kit on this car for the money is stunning. The version I have has the LED lights, auto wipers/lights, bluetooth etc. etc. etc. so everything basically except the sunroof, leather and heated seats.
The engine is amazingly responsive, the ride firm but supple, and the comfort and driving position spot on. I absolutely love driving it. Slap my SD card into the socket in the glovebox for music and away I go. Gets tons of admiring looks wherever I go - the daytime running lights are very nice, more understated than the 'pearls of light' effect on the rest of the new cars on the road.
Economy so far not as stated, but still running it in plus I haven't been too light-footed, even if not thrashing it, so we will see. So far have managed about 50mpg but given that I haven't done much highway driving, it's pretty respectable.
Plenty of room front and back, and the boot is a great size. Marked down slightly though as boot lip is a bit high for loading.
Illumination from the LED lights has to be seen to be believed, but at the same time remains a negative point. Just as with those i****s on the road who have fitted HID kits to their cars without the focal lenses (thus blinding the rest of us - if you can't afford a car without factory Xenons, you can't have them - work harder/save more) it seems the LED lights DO need to be adjusted down a little bit - they do auto adjust but I feel they are set too high and have been flashed a few times by oncoming drivers - may get dealer to see if they can lower them.
Giving 5 stars for reliability although haven't had it long enough for something to go wrong obviously - however it feels incredibly well put together. The level of attention to detail is immediately apparent and it feels like a precision-engineered machine.
I was actually at the dealer to look at a 2011 Leon but after a test drive in the new one - I was sold and the extra outlay was well worth it, coupled with a huge discount deal on it as it had 1,000 kilometres on the clock (had been used as a launch car in Ireland) which essentially took care of first year depreciation. Dealer was great and even got in touch a few weeks later to see if I was happy with it, plus gave me a bottle of wine etc... really felt welcome and they went the extra mile.
